Our July 2022 Member of the Month has been a Maui Pilates Studio Ohana Member since 2019 but has been calling Maui home for the last 10 years. She engages in many physically energetic pursuits outdoors and is a late bloomer dancing with Hālau Hula I Kona Mau Lima. We want to offer a big Ho’omaika’i ‘ana (congratulations) to Donna Flores!
When asked why she started her Pilates journey, here is what Donna had to say, “My original motivation for starting Pilates was to alleviate hip pain. Dancing Hula for the first time at the ripe age of 57 caused a lot of pain in my hips. After just a few sessions of Pilates I noticed improvements, but not just in my hips. It's been three years since starting my Pilates practice and I feel stronger, taller, and notice that I have a stronger core and better posture. Pilates has certainly helped improve my confidence in performing Hula, but what I didn't anticipate is how Pilates has enhanced the quality of life. My passion for other activities that I enjoy and love, such as snorkeling, swimming, paddle boarding, walking, hiking, and camping, all of which require a strong physical body, are enhanced with Pilates”
We asked Donna what she liked about Maui Pilates Studio, and here is what she had to say, “I look forward to my weekly Pilates class, but my goal is to attend class twice week in the near future." Donna is grateful for the wonderful Maui Pilates Studio Ohana, “I like surrounding myself with healthy and positive minded people. I love doing Pilates with these people and I think it is wonderful that we are able participate in extracurricular activities outside of the Studio, like the Beach Clean Up Day, the Thompson Road hike, and the Pau Hana Aloha Friday activities.”
It is a pleasure having you in class, Donna. Keep doing what you're doing because it's working!
