We are a Balanced Body Authorized Training Center and offer Pilates Mat, Reformer, Comprehensive, and Bridge program certification on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. Balanced Body Pilates certifications respectfully and comprehensively presents the works of Joseph Pilates and combines contemporary exercises based on the latest movement science to bring you a thorough understanding of the Pilates method. Our Pilates curriculum includes a detailed, full-color manual with accompanying videos to support and enhance your learning experience. We are committed to supporting your personal and professional growth. 

 

Pilates Mat Instructor Certification

Pilates Mat exercises are the foundation of the Pilates method. The Balanced Body Pilates Mat Instructor Certification Program includes:

  • The full repertoire of Pilates Mat exercises, along with modifications and variations, preparing you to work with a wide range of clients 

  • Pilates History 

  • Development of effective cueing, coaching and teaching skills

  • Guidelines for Pilates and pregnancy

  • Guidelines for Pilates and osteoporosis protocols

To become a fully qualified Balanced Body Pilates Mat Instructor, students must complete the following courses: Movement Principles, Mat 1, Mat 2, and Mat 3. Students are required to complete 20 Pilates Mat personal practice hours, 15 observation hours, and 35 student teaching hours. Upon completion of all requirements, students will need to Pass a final written and practical test. 

 

Pilates Reformer Instructor Certification

The Universal Reformer is an extraordinary piece of exercise equipment, and the center piece of a Pilates studio! The Reformer was originally designed and developed by Joseph Pilates and is an invaluable training tool. Learn how to use and teach Reformer Pilates exercises to create powerful programming designed to optimize your clients ' potential. The Balanced Body Pilates Reformer Certification Program Includes:

  • The complete Reformer exercise repertoire, along with modifications

  • Instructions in observing and analyzing posture and movement

  • Guidelines for teaching older adults, and clients with common low back pain

  • Development of effective cueing, coaching and teaching skills

  • Guidelines for Pilates and pregnancy

  • Guidelines for Pilates and osteoporosis protocols

  • Equipment safety and maintenance

  • Pilates History 

To become a Balanced Body certified Pilates Reformer Instructor, students must complete the following courses: Movement Principles, anatomy in 3D, Reformer 1, Reformer 2, and Reformer 3. Students are required to complete 30 Reformer personal practice hours, 30 observation hours, and 90 student teaching hours. Upon completion of all requirements, students will need to Pass a final written and practical test. 

 

Comprehensive Pilates Instructor Certification

Learn the complete Balanced Body Pilates Instructor Training System by adding the Trapeze Table, Chair, Ladder Barrel , and Spine Corrector to your certification. You will learn how each apparatus works independently, and how together they make the whole system. The Balanced Body Comprehensive Pilates Instructor Certification Program includes:

  • The full repertoire of Pilates exercises, along with modifications and variations, preparing you to work with a wide range of clients

  • Development of effective cueing, coaching and teaching skill

  • Guidelines for Pilates and pregnancy

  • Guidelines for Pilates and osteoporosis protocols

  • Guidelines for teaching older adults, and clients with common low back pain

  • Equipment safety and maintenance

  • Pilates History 

To become a Balanced Body certified comprehensive Pilates Instructor, students must complete the following courses: Movement Principles, anatomy in 3D, Mat 1, Mat 2, Mat 3, Reformer 1, Reformer 2, Reformer 3, Trapeze Table, Chair, and Barrels. Students are required to complete 20 Mat personal practice hours, 65 Reformer personal practice hours, 65 studio personal practice hours, 65 Observation sessions , and 220 student teaching hours. Upon completion of all requirements, students will need to Pass a final written and practical test. 

 

Bridge Program

The Balanced Body Pilates Bridge Program was created for students who have either starteda Pilates teacher training program with another organization and want to transfer to a Balanced Body certification, or have completed their training with another organization and are interested in also obtaining a certification as a Balanced Body Pilates Instructor. Balanced Body offers bridging programs for Mat, Reformer, and Comprehensive Pilates certifications. We know that each student's bridging program will be unique, and consequently, together with Balanced Body, we will evaluate the course of study to accommodate each bridge student. Please reach out to us directly so we can learn more about your previous Pilates training so we can recommend the path for your bridging program.

Movement Principles, 16 hours (coming soon in 2024). This course provides the foundation of the Balanced Body Pilates Instructor Training System, and a pre-requisite course for all Balanced Body Pilates certification programs. Movement Principles include the most important information on anatomy, postural and movement assessment, biomechanics, and foundational exercises needed to become a successful Pilates teacher. 

 

Mat 1, 16 hours (coming soon in 2024). Includes an introduction to the history and principles of the Pilates method, beginner, and intermediate level exercises. Each exercise includes modifications, challenges, the purpose of the exercise, and any precautions for injuries and special populations. Guidelines for teaching osteoporosis and pre and post–natal populations are included.

 

Mat 2, 16 hours: October 13th through 15th, 2023. Includes the remaining intermediate and advanced level Mat exercises for a complete understanding of the Pilates Mat program. The course also includes lectures on progressive skill development, helping you to create successful classes for clients at any level, and teaching Pilates for athletes and dancers.

 

Mat 3, 16 hours: December 1st through 3rd, 2023. Learn how to enhance your Mat classes by adding props to traditional Mat exercises such as the Magic Circle, foam roller, resistance bands, and balls . Adding props makes class more dynamic, creative and fun!

 

Reformer 1, 16 hours: September 8th through 10th, 2023. Includes an introduction to the history and principles of the Pilates method, an introduction to the Reformer, equipment set up, safety, and maintenance of the Reformer. You will learn beginner and intermediate level exercises while improving lower body alignment, creating balanced muscle development, and learning a protocol for effectively training the upper body. Guidelines for teaching osteoporosis and pre and post–natal populations are included.

 

Reformer 2, 16 hours: November 3rd through 5th, 2023. Includes the intermediate and advanced level exercises. You will learn how to teach clients with lower back injuries, dynamic assessment,and correcting common dysfunctional movement patterns.

 

Reformer 3, 16 hours (coming soon in 2024). Includes the advanced and super advanced level exercises. The course also includes lectures on progressive skill development, helping you to create successful classes for clients at any level, and teaching Pilates for athletes and dancers.

 

Trapeze Table / Cadillac / Tower, 18 hours (coming soon in 2024). Includes a thorough introduction to the Trapeze Table and Tower in beginner, post–rehabilitation, intermediate, and advanced level exercises, including equipment set up, safety, and maintenance. You will learn sequencing programs using multiple pieces of equipment, dynamic assessment and correcting common dysfunctional movement patterns, as well as how to teach clients with lower back injuries, .

 

Chair and Barrels, 20 hours (coming soon in 2024). Includes exercises and variations for the original Wunda chair, the EXO chair , and the split pedal Combo Chair, as well as exercises and variations for the Step Barrel (spine corrector) and Ladder Barrel. Both are excellent tools for enhancing spinal mobility and core strength. You will learn sequencing programs using multiple pieces of equipment.
